Cards for February

A couple of card designs I did. One for a friend, and one for my nephew. I think it's nice to recieve a home made card. Makes it more personal and special. Also there are some awful cards about.

For the Owl card I used different coloured paper and card. Then drew over the top. Collage is very effective medium and has brought a two dimensional feel to the image.

Owl Card

It's my nephew's birthday tomorrow, Laurie and I wanted to do a special card for him. I illustrated him on the front of the card holding his favourite toy 'Bunny' which he has three of them. One extra, in case loses the original one. (Which did happen) and the other was bought to replace the one that went missing!. But then was found again. I wanted to express the cheekiness of Laurie. Also all he bunnies he has are slightly different.
I used coloured pencils and pen for a simple design.

New Painting!

Been a while since adding new work, been a bit bogged down with work!
Currently doing my own art classes for the under five's at Gymboree Bromley. So I'm doing quite a bit of prep for that, but's kool as I enjoy teaching the classes.

This is a new painting I've just finished. Quite an abstract landscape, wasn't too sure what to call it?.
I used acrylic inks and chalk for the medium. Wanted to create quite a dark moody atmosphere. Also this is currently my website at the moment. As my website has been infected by a virus!! Don't know how exactly?? So I am going to rebuild a brand spanking new website.

Beauty and the Beast Competition

Beauty and the Beast

These are some sketches and character work I did for a competition for Waterstones 'Picture This' 2011
This year it is Beauty and Beast. I thought I'd enter it, as I love Beauty and the Beast. I think it is amazing story and I felt my illustration style would suit it.
So here are my interpretations of the characters. I used acrylic inks and paint as my medium.

What I've been working on...

'Down the Drain' by Stephen Saunders

I am currently working with author Stephen Saunders. On a Children's book he has written called , 'Down the Drain'. Which is about a boy who gets sucked into the plug hole when he's sitting in the bath and goes on a journey meeting some rather unusual characters. He ends up on a journey around the u-bend and even travels out to sea only to end up back home again.

Here are some rough sketches and development for the book that I have been working on.

Happy Valentine's Day for yesterday!

Happy Valentine's day everyone !!

I thought I'd share my Valentine's card I did for my boyfriend. (Iain)

Why a Tiger and Rabbit? Because I was born in the year of the Rabbit and my boyfriend was born in the year of the Tiger.  I thought it would be sweet to make a card. Also I had a look at the cards in the shop and they made me want to vomit, they were so cheesy!!

I wanted to keep my design simple yet interesting. I used coloured pencils and pen.

Mini Project "Do You Work Here?"

'Do You Work Here' is a mini personal project I did about my experiences working in retail.
It was a way for me to express my frustration and hatred of my job.
I wanted to show a funny side, to were I used to work and show the different characters of people I worked with and came across.

Snowy Birthday Card

kathryn Spreadbury 2010

This is a snowy birthday card for my Mum. As it's snowing , I felt like creating an image that represents this wintery feel.

I used oil pastles and a pen. I used one of my old pen's to scratch into the pastle to create the illusion of fur on the baby penguins.
